Cotswold Fungus Group, Fungi forays in the Cotswolds and North Wiltshire

cotswold fungus group, chicken of the woodsThe Cotswold Fungus Group is part of a national network of enthusiasts for mushrooms, fungi and all things mycological.  We organise regular fungus forays throughout the year, visiting a wide range of sites throughout north Wiltshire and Gloucestershire (excluding the Forest of Dean, where there is a separate group).

Members are encouraged to learn to identify fungi with the help of experienced identifiers.  The records of finds are sent a a national database at the British Mycological Society in London and to local Wildlife Trusts.  All of our foray activities are covered by public liability insurance, provided by the Association of British Fungus Groups.

Fungus Forays

Fungus forays typically take place on Sundays, although there are some Saturday fixtures at the height of the Autumn and Spring seasons.  Click here to see a list of the provisional foray dates for this year

Walks are for approximately 2 hours in either the morning or afternoon, (sometimes both), with a pub lunch in between.  Members can choose to attend as many or as few forays as they wish - all for the same yearly subscription!

Forays are led by an experienced identifier, usually Dave Champion or John Roberts, another group member or  by a guest identifier from a neighbouring group - all covered by ABFG public liability insurance.  Fungi are picked and identified in the field as far as possible.  Lists of the day's finds are produced and sent on to members.
