Fungus Forays in France

Members of the Cotswold Fungus Group have been visiting France to foray since 1992.  This is a private visit organised for and by group members. The trip typically lasts 6 days, including a weekend.

The atmosphere of the trip is relaxed and informal.  Members are encouraged to take advantage of this chance to improve their identification skills, but none of the forays are compulsory.

Hotel and foray arrangements are made by Dave and Jenny Shorten on behalf of the group and costs are shared amongst those attending. Travel is either with the group jointly or members can make their own arrangements and join us in France.

Stop Press - 2010 A Great Success

Rain in the previous 2 weeks to our trip this year meant the fungi season in France was in full swing. We brought the sunshine with us and experienced a week of glorious weather and splendid foraying. To see the first instalment of photos from the trip, please go to the Photo Gallery.

If you would like to receive information about next year's trip, please register your interest with us by emailing .  Details will be sent to members at the end of the Spring season.

Foraying in France

Fungus forays are organised each day to local forests, where we collect and identify the local fungi. Picnic lunches are taken 'in the field' and evening meals at our hotel. In the past, chefs at the hotel have been known to cook any edible mushrooms we may find for our supper.

Our lists of finds contribute to the national database kept by the Société Mycologique de France and are made available to the local and regional groups in the area. We are currently approaching the 20,000 mark for records contributed by our group over the years.
