CFG forayers lay out their finds from a morning's foraying in the Andaines Forest, nr Bagnoles de L'Orne One of the more spectacular finds at La Herse, Belleme, this year - Strobilomyces strobilaceus (Old Man of the Woods) and friend (Jenny Shorten) And we don't mean the humans! Prof Jean Philippe Rioult shares his knowledge with forayers at La Herse. (And yes it is the same specimen!) Specimens in their crates ready to go back for identification and then to the exhibition at Belleme. This is the Scarlet Elf Cup Sarcoscypha coccinea, found only in the UK. It's mainland European relative is Sarcoscypha austriaca. Recent research is showing that the majority of collections thought to be the UK species may in fact be the European invader. Telling them apart is only possible with microscopic examination.
